INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIORS

SELECTED WORKS FROM 1986-1999

The work archived here was created between the years 1985 and 1998. During this time, I produced a collection of artworks organized around two related themes. The first theme addressed issues of disability, more specifically the institutionalization of disabled individuals. The second theme focused on the life stories of physically and/or developmentally disabled adults residing in large, long-term residential care facilities. The primary participants in the latter project were Mary Bame and Terry Colbert. Together, we created a body of art that explored the often-dehumanizing experiences to which severely disabled individuals are subjected on a daily basis, despite the hard work and good intentions of those employed to serve them.
