Duea’ (prayer) Wall

casting nets exhibition

Duea’ (prayer) Wall (96”x100”) is a multi-panel work consisting of twenty 18”24” ink drawings on paper, eight 13”x14” oil and fiber paintings on paper.

At the heart of the collection is Duea’ (prayer) wall. The very word – duea’ – flows from the mouth on a stream of air, like the spiritual practices of breath-prayer. The inhale-exhale of syllables, the foreign tongue universal in meaning makes space to connect with self, others, and God.

A different kind of wall, Duea’ looms as permeable. Grounded yet ascending, met by heaven descending. A vertical conversation. Intuitive, alternative, rhythmic. In Duea, I sense a truth about prayer: it’s a type of veil I’m embroidering as I integrate the realities of my external and internal worlds. Prayer brings the Kingdom covering as I sleep, shelters me as I move through the winds of circumstance. It fortifies me as I move through the impassable, impossible, and unutterable seeking to staying true to the Invisible Word embodying, emboldening me. Groanings too deep to utter, inexpressible joy, boundless request, flowing from diverse bits and pieces of living real, rising from countless tongues and nations, the weft and warp of creation.
